Error: "file: NclNewFile.c, line: 6839 Could not get varnode"

I am getting a really odd error that is causing the word "string" to be
written to the beginning of the string attributes in my output files. (It
also looks like not everything is being written since the lon attributes
are missing.) Though the data is there, this is then causing problems when
trying to use the new files. Any ideas on what's going on?
