Hi Jemma,
We make every effort to keep the user functions backwards compatible. With any routine that we've publicly documented, we rarely (if ever) change it or remove it. In fact, I'm not sure we've ever removed an advertied function, although we may have deprecated it.
The routine you mentioned, "mapchi" is not one of our user-callable routines that I know of. Tell me how you're using it, and in the meantime I'll try to figure out what happened to it.
