Hi Maurice,
Perhaps the resource "mpGreatCircleLinesOn" (http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Document/Graphics/Resources/mp.shtml#mpGreatCircleLinesOn) is what you are looking for. When set True all lines drawn using the polyline or polygon routines use a great circle between points.
