dtrend_leftdim is a deprecated function. The documentation
should mention that.
Can you please try the following?

    trend = dtrend_n(dat,True,0)
    copy_VarMeta(dat, trend)    ; there is no dtrend_n_Wrap (yet)
    trend@ncl_op = "dtrend"
