The error message is telling you exacty what is wrong

u amd u1New are different sizes.

dimension 0 is "time"
dimension 1 is "lat"
dimension 2 is "lon"

It says 1 because it is the 1st dimension that it encounters
that is wrong.

You must interpolate one grid to the other.
