most of us start with ps these days rather than ncgm to eps.

for those guru's out there, what is the best method?

    Subject: Poor quality graphics output

    Hi Gary,

Hope you are having a nice holiday season.

I am putting together an NCAR Tech Note using tex to
format the text and include postscript graphics files.

The graphics files were generated by NCAR graphics,
using software developed in CGD during the mid-90s.
The packages are ezplot and gf. The original graphics
output are "gmeta" and "*.cgm" respectively.

    I use

         "ctrans -d ps.mono graphics.cgm > graphics.ps"

to initially convert the files to postscript. Then, I run

         "ps2ps graphics.ps converted_graphics.ps"

to properly format the file with borders (or whatever) so
that the "converted_grahics.ps" files can be included in
    the tex file.

However, after converting the dvi output file from tex to
postscript, the quality of the graphics' pages is not very
good. When I use gv to display the separate graphics postscript
files, the result is the same. The poor quality is due to faint
    lines and background.

I used to get much better quality just a few months back using
idt. I was also using some old software from Christ G. that
modified the ctrans command with a graphcaps file to produce
    pretty nice printed output.

But Chris' account has been removed, and I am stuck with the
    poor quality output files now.

Do you have any ideas on what I can do? Thanks.

May His peace be with you. Have a Merry Christmas!
