label bar with pointed ends

Is anyone aware of a way to put "pointed" ends on color label bars,
e.g. like this figure:

     http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/gridded/images/globe.compos.gif

Ideally, this would be the default behavior when there is out-of-range
data and the "cnLabelBarEndStyle" resource is NOT set to
"ExcludeOuterBoxes". If this currently isn't possible, I'd like to
make a pitch to the NCL developers that this small feature be added to
a future version.
