U.S. shapefiles

Hi,

Does anyone know where I might be able to get shapefiles (compatible
with NCL) for the USGCRP regions used for, e.g., the National Climate
Assessment report. There are eight regions (Alaska, Northwest,
Southwest, Great Plains North, Great Plains South, Midwest, Southeast,
Northwest).

Or if someone knows of a way to join the states shapefiles into regions
(http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/shapefiles.shtml), that would work
also.
