NCL Workshop, January 14-17, 2014

This web page was set up for students in the NCL workshop at the CTTC in Boulder, January 14-17, 2014.

We have a variety of scientific interests in this course, and thought it might be interesting to set up a page to showcase sample visualizations of users' datasets, and perhaps visualizations during the hands-on lab this week.

Types of data mentioned in workshop surveys

Types of research mentioned in workshop surveys

  • climatic extremes - regional climate, downscaling
  • climate change variability
  • climate change projections
  • cloud parameterization in global climate models
  • Global Circle Model, potential evapotranspiration
  • hydrologic science and engineering
  • hydrology and climate change
  • mesoscale meteorology (low-level jets in China)
  • meteorology/severe weather impacts
  • ocean biochemistry responsible for production of the climate active trace gas
  • rainfall data
  • 3D scientific visualization
  • tropical cyclone and earthquake models
  • using glaciers to learn about past climates and to gain further insight into the climate change occurring today
  • using WRF to downscale reanalysis data in complex terrain for hydrologic applications
  • upper atmosphere modelling; long-term changes in the ionosphere and thermosphere
