NCL Workshop at the University of Alaska Fairbanks

The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be hosting a free NCL Workshop the week of 11-15 March 2013. The workshop is open to all students and staff of UAF/ARSC.

Space is limited, so sign up soon! To sign up, fill out this survey: https://survey.ucar.edu/s?s=8656.
You will receive an email confirmation once the survey is complete.

The workshop will consist of both lectures and hands-on labs. It is co-taught by Dennis Shea, an associate scientist at NCAR/NESL, and Mary Haley, a software engineer at NCAR/CISL. During the labs, students will be encouraged to download their own datasets of interest, and Dennis and Mary will help them write NCL scripts to analyze and/or visualize them.

The 2013 Alaska Weather Symposium will be held that same week, 12-13 March 2013. Stay tuned for details about the NCL workshop schedule: we will be working around the AWS dates.

General information about the NCL workshop

  • Schedule - tentative!

  • The NCL workshop will be held in the WRRB 009 Classroom at ARSC (map).

  • Students will be provided with a login to the Pacman supercomputer, if they don't already have one.

  • Starter NCL scripts for workshop.

  • If you can provide us with sample datasets that you work with before the workshop starts, then here's where you can ftp it:

        ftp ftp.cgd.ucar.edu
        <log in as "anonymous">
        <Use email address as password>
        cd incoming
        put <your files>
        quit

    You can't list the contents of this directory, so email Mary (haley at ucar dot edu) and Dennis (shea at ucar dot edu) with the exact names of the files.
